Spiderweb

From the edge of the curtain
to the pane of the glass
stretches a tenuous thread.
I do not spy the architect
of this fine spun wonder
which shimmers in noon sunlight,
and quivers in conditioned airs.

Spontaneous

Spontaneous smiles
And random kindnesses
Make even the dreariest of days
All the brighter.

After all

Green turn of a leaf
Fluttering feather
Nurturing cool, soft damp
Home to those lowly,
Yet vital.
And the rumble deep below
A single flake breaks free
Drifts to land, at last
The scale is tipped.

Good morning, beautiful

You’re going to be a star.
You might not know
Your own name yet
But you’re already precious
You’re already a miracle,
You might have come
A tad bit early
But then that never hurts,
Does it

Hello, beautiful,
Welcome to the world
Welcome to this crazy family
Welcome to our hearts
We love you more
Than you can possibly imagine,
Best of luck to you,
Our newest little blessing.

I just found out that my cousin had her baby girl this week. She was two weeks early, but perfectly healthy. What finer thing than this can I possibly have to write about today?

Promise

There is nothing quite like

A blank white space

Blue rains

When blue rains fall
And thundering rolls overall
Graphite clouds shroud the sky
Winds rattle the windows
In their shaking frames
Till the tempest blows itself exhausted.
Then at last, silence reigns
I hear the drip, drop, plunk
And a timid twittering
A distant laugh, life returned
Replenished and renewed though by sorrow
Heavy tears make way for light sunshine
Brilliance dips away to the west,
Sated at last, earth lays to rest.

Ladybug

Since I forgot to post one yesterday (again), I’ll put one that I wrote a few days ago.

A ladybug lit
On my backpack today
I was riding the bus
And felt a little grey.
She crawled over and under
Up and down my hand
Tickling and teasing
And when we came to land
She lifted her be-spotted wings
And flew into the sky,
My grey mood lifted with her
And a smile lit my eye.
